Brutus pictured at 4 years old
I generally keep this pic up as his main photo because this is a very Brutus
face. He makes this sweet smile a lot.

I bought Brutus as a puppy and he's been here with us ever
since. As he grew up, I decided that he was not quite what I considered breeding quality and had
him neutered. (Although you'd never know it by the way he always got fired up over the ladies.
)
He has nice height, a big body, but a somewhat lighter bone structure
than the mastiffs that I bred. But he
is everything that you could ever want in a mastiff for a pet. He's just a
great guy, with a great temperament. He is currently 10 years old.
Health wise he is still doing great. He has some mild arthritis in one leg
(at the hock) where he injured it as a puppy. When he was very young he
was in my lap on a recliner and he suddenly jumped from my lap and his leg fell
into a slender space between the footrest and a bar that ran between the
footrest and the seat. It was horrible. He screamed and screamed and
I could not reach him (his body had cleared the footrest, only his leg remained
in the hole. If I tried to get up to get to him the bar collapsed on his
leg. It only lasted a few seconds, but it felt like an eternity till we
got him loose. He didn't break anything, and he was well checked out by
the vet. And he never had any trouble with the leg except when he'd been
running a great deal, then he would favor that spot a little. Now that he
is older, he has some arthritis in that spot. But it still isn't too
big of an issue for him, unless he's been running a lot. But that is why I
was always so adamant about warning people about recliners!
Brutus loves guns. I'm not sure why. But he
goes bananas over a gunshot. He loves it. He will walk right through a
chain link fence (with no difficulty whatsoever) to get to the sound of a gun.
Which can make hunting season around here rather interesting. Let's just
say we've done lots of patchwork to the fence over the years. LOL

Brutus is a simply great dog. He has been a wonderful member of our family for many years and we love him so very much.
