Sniffer

Sniffer in April of 2007.

Sniffer is a puppy that Chuck rescued from a really bad situation in April of 2007.  She is half chihuahua and half Jack Russell Terrier.  When she first arrived, her personality was exactly what you might expect of that mix.  It wasn't good.  But with good training she quickly came around and she's now a fantastic little dog.

She was here for almost two months with no name.  Nothing (and I mean nothing) seemed to fit her.  Finally our son Will wanted to name her.  He chose the name Sniffer and his reason was this, "Because she sniffs out crunchy treats!"  Which brought a roll of laughter from all of us, because that is exactly what Sniffer does.  She follows the kids around waiting for them to drop something, so that she can eat it.  Will & Sniffer are good buddies, and since we couldn't think of a good name that felt right for her, we let Will name her Sniffer.  I can't say that I'm terribly crazy about the name, but she loves it and so does Will, so it works for us!

Sniffer is a funny little dog.  She does things that I've never had a dog do before.  For one, she gets very irritated by lighting bugs.  Strange but true.  It's like they just tick her off by their mere presence.  Well they are ok until they light up.  It is the lighting up, that she doesn't like.  She'll turn her head sideways and grrrr at them and then if they light up again she will chase them down and kill them.  And apparently lighting bugs must taste just horrible, because she acts like they do.  But it doesn't stop her from attacking another one if it lights up near her face.  It is a very strange thing to watch.

When she goes outside she will bark at the door whenever she is ready to come back in.  She loves to play with Spike.  She tormented him for several days when she first arrived.  He tried ignoring her but she finally wore him down and they are now great buddies.

She is very smart and understands a lot of what you say, just talking to her.  She's a lot of fun to have around.  Everyone that meets her falls in love with her.  Even my parents who live nearby, love to spoil her.  She's quite the big baby.  She seems to bring out that reaction in everyone.
