Spike

Spike is a rescue that we took in 6 years ago. We took in him and his sister, when they were very small pups, approx. 6 weeks old. Lice infested, flea infested, worm infested, dirty little pups. We cleaned them up and let them shine. His sister became strongly bonded with a mastiff rescue we had here at the time and we were lucky enough to be able to find a forever home for both of them together. And Spike very quickly became ours.

Spike is one of the most likeable dogs you'll ever meet. Highly intelligent, an amazing nose on him, and the ability to run at the speed of light. He's a boxer/bird dog mix and he is a big boy for a mutt. Running at around 95 lbs (lean).

He fell in love with me the minute he first saw me, as I him. And that has lasted ever since. He worships the ground I walk on and loves me as much as any dog could ever love their human.

Some dog-people bonds are formed over time. And others seem to be formed instantly. I think those instant bonds are very special. Like the minute you lay eyes on each other, you know you were meant to be family. That's how it was with Spike & I. And now that he's been with me for over 6 years I can't say that I regret a minute of it. He's is a joy to have in the family. He is great with the kids. An amazingly good playmate for the little dogs, despite their enormous size difference. And he makes me smile every time I look at him.
